MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
Mental Health impacts our overall well-being and affects how we think, feel and act. It is essential that we invest time in self-care. Caring for your mental health can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy.
Mental health awareness week took place from 12 May to 18 May 2025. This year’s focus was on community and the importance of belonging.
Loneliness can increase the risk of mental health challenges. Social connection and community can give us a sense of purpose and belonging, which supports our mental health and reduces symptoms of mental health
Issues.
The Mental Health Foundation is the home of Mental Health Awareness Week and the only UK charity solely focused on preventing poor mental health and building and protecting good mental health.
If you wish to learn more about Mental Health and how to support your mental health, please follow the link below.
You can also donate to the mental health foundation and support them on their journey to protecting good mental health.

Mindfulness in daily life
Whilst you can set aside time for more formal practice, there are ways we can all practice mindfulness in daily life. Look at the examples below and make a conscious effort this month to
- Notice everyday things like the air moving past you as you move, the feel of a bannister as you go upstairs, or the taste and textures of the food you eat.
- Pause and focus on your breath for 2-5 minutes. Notice each inhale and exhale.
- Try something new, like a different route home from the station or a different seat on the bus. This can help you notice the world in a different way.
- Each day write down 1-3 things you’re grateful for. Keep it simple.
- Mindful end to the day – Reflect on your day with kindness and notice one moment you appreciated.
Mind has some simple mindfulness exercises you can try right now. Click the link to find out more ways to practice mindfulness in your daily life.
