SLEEP HELP

We know the summer can make sleep a bit more tricky. Here are some tips to help you get the good night’s rest you deserve:

STAY HYDRATED: Dehydration can impair the body’s ability to sweat and regulate its internal temperature, increasing the risk of sleep disturbances.

MORNING EXERCISE: Light exercise, especially in the morning, can improve our ability to fall asleep. It uses up the body’s stored energy, leaving us feeling tired in the evening and less responsive to ambient temperature changes.

REDUCE AFTERNOON NAPPING: Warm weather can cause us to feel lethargic, making an afternoon nap tempting. However, napping disrupts the natural circadian rhythm, often resulting in difficulty falling asleep at night.

TAKE SLEEP MEDICATION: Clinically proven sleep aids like NytoI One-a-Night block histamine receptors in the brain to promote drowsiness, and can be used to help deal with seasonal sleep difficulties. Alternatively, you can try NytoI Herbal – a natural sleeping aid that contains valerian root to help treat temporary insomnia.

Missing Person

This policy outlines procedures for staff to follow in the event of a missing service user. It emphasises preventing incidents through vigilance and risk assessment, especially for vulnerable individuals.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY...

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS

by Ann Collins

What Are the Six Principles of Safeguarding?

Safeguarding vulnerable adults or children can be summarised by these six main principles:

Empowerment: This principle emphasises giving service users more control over their lives. It’s crucial for providing person-centred care and allowing service users to make their own choices. These choices can range from small daily decisions, like what clothes to wear or what to eat, to larger topics such as whether to take medication.

Prevention: The aim is to prevent harm before it occurs.

Proportionality: This means responding to situations in a balanced and appropriate way. You should respect your service users’ wishes where possible and always consider what is best for them.

Protection: You should be equipped to identify abuse and protect service users. This includes knowing Peach Care’s policies and procedures for reporting concerns, as well as understanding what support to offer service users.

Partnership: We collaborate with other healthcare providers, local authorities, and various organisations to prevent, identify, and report abuse. Remember to only share information about clients when absolutely necessary.

Accountability: Everyone shares responsibility for safeguarding. You should be aware of your specific roles and responsibilities in this regard.

LEARN A NEW SKILL: Did you know, learning a new skill can challenge you mentally and help foster a sense of accomplishment?

Learning a new skill does more than expand your knowledge—it keeps your brain active, builds resilience, and boosts confidence. It strengthens memory, problem-solving, and cognitive ability by forming new neural connections. The process, from curiosity to mastery, is rewarding and fulfilling. It can open doors to new personal and professional opportunities, connect you with others, and lead to exciting hobbies or careers. Whether it’s music, language, coding, or cooking, lifelong learning brings joy and growth.

CHALLENGE: WHY NOT CHALLENGE YOURSELF AND ENJOY THE JOY AND FULFILMENT THAT COME WITH LIFELONG LEARNING?
